General Motors and Ford separately announced plans to halt some production amid an ongoing computer chip shortage.
GM officials said the company would press pause at eight of its 15 North American assembly plants for two weeks.
Ford is halting production at its Kansas City assembly plant for two weeks. Shifts will be cut at two more plants in Dearborn, Michigan, and Louisville, Kentucky.
