Global cyberattack sparks fewer aftershocks than feared

Attempts to counter the world's biggest cyberattack may be working.

"The number of infected computers has not increased as expected, which is a success," European law enforcement agency Europol said Monday.

Officials on Sunday estimated at least 150 countries had been affected. Within those countries, 200,000 machines were hit, including those in hospitals, universities, manufacturers and government agencies in Britain, China, Russia, Germany and Spain.

Machines reportedly were affected by the Wannacry virus, a type of ransomware that locks down machines in exchange for money.
