The Springfield Landmarks Preservation Trust gave the gift to MSU after having loaned the materials to the school through June. A graduate-level English research class used them to produce an upcoming book.
The gift consists of letters, newspaper clippings, photographs, personal memorabilia and certificates from the theatre, which is scheduled to reopen Oct. 12 after being closed for 26 years.
“The Gillioz Theatre Collection provides us with a fascinating snapshot of one of Springfield’s most important cultural landmarks,” said David Richards, head of the special collection and archives office, in a news release. “The material dovetails nicely with our holdings regarding the performing arts.”
The special collections and archives office at Meyer Library is open to the public. Hours are 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with extended hours on Tuesday until 9 p.m.
