Gifts inspire relaxation, luxury

Posted online
Whether shoppers are looking for gifts that encourage relaxation, or gifts for people who seem to have everything, the local marketplace is full of choices.

Cigar, anyone?

Cigars are expected to be a popular holiday gift at Just for Him, 1334 E. Battlefield in Fremont Center. “We sell them by the stick or by the box,” said sales associate Ryan Koory, adding that gift packs have started to arrive from the manufacturers and more are expected. Gift packs range in price from $20 to $200.

Koory said Just For Him stocks about 100,000 cigars year-round and shifts it inventory to make room for holiday giftpacks.

Unwind at the spa

The spa at Garrison Plastic Surgery, 1335 E. Independence, Ste. B, offers gift certificates for several procedures.

Microdermabrasion, a 45-minute procedure to exfoliate the top layer of the facial skin, costs $80 for one session or $400 for a package of six sessions, said aesthetician Janny Daniels.

An hour-long spa facial is another popular option, she said.

“We do a really deep skin cleansing, facial massage, a mask, arm massage and neck massage. The facials are very relaxing,” Daniels said of the procedure, which costs $60.

At Body Enhancement Clinic, 2902 S. Lone Pine, gift cards entitle recipients to choices such as massage, steam therapy, or reflexology. Reflexology is the use of acupressure or massage to reduce tension or relieve pain.

“Massage is always going to be popular,” said owner Leisa Wardlaw, adding that the clinic offers about seven types of massage.

Prices range from chair massage at $1 per minute to a package of six one-hour massages for $300.

Steam therapy, with the client inside a DermaLife capsule, uses the natural therapeutic qualities of steam to open and cleanse pores, eliminating toxins from the body, Wardlaw said.

Reflexology at Body Enhancement Clinic, done by Marabella West, doctor of Oriental medicine, starts at $65 per hour.

Pretty smiles

The gift of a smile is available at Dr. Betsy McQueary’s dental office, 3540 S National Ave. Zoom whitening treatments, which whiten a patient’s smile by four to five shades per session, costs $500.

“So many people have tried the at-home kits, and they just won’t stick with them,” McQueary said.

“This does what two weeks of tray whitening does in one session.”

The patient’s lips and gums are isolated, whitening gel is applied to the teeth and then activated by a specially designed light. The procedure takes about an hour.

In the swing

One-on-one golf lessons are available in a $180 package at Rivercut Golf Course through Rick Grayson Golf Instruction. The cost of the package, Grayson said, covers three lessons, and a fourth is free.

Lessons, he said, are appropriate for golfers at all skill levels.

“We offer this to some people that have never played before, and they come in and learn the basic fundamentals of the golf swing, the grip, the stance and the ball position,” Grayson said.

“And we have people that have played for a long time that want to improve their game. They come in because maybe they’ve played for 20 years, but they’ve developed a slice or they can’t get the ball to go as straight as they’d like,” Grayson said.

Another sports-and-fitness related option is available through Studio One Pilates LLC, 317 E. Walnut.

Margaret Blackwood, certified instructor, said gift certificates may be purchased for introductory classes for $30, $70 for a non-introductory class, or a series of 10 classes for $500.

“We can tailor them to whatever the person wants to do,” Blackwood said.

For the wine lover

Gifts for wine lovers may be found at Winestyles, 1362 E. Republic Road, where owner Hallie Sale keeps premade gift baskets in stock during the holidays, ranging in price from less than $25 to $100. Custom baskets also are available for any price range.

Membership in WineStyles’ wine club is $34.99 per month, and members get perks such as 10 percent off the purchase of six bottles or more.

“I do whites one month, reds the next month,” Sale said.

“I select a couple of great wines, no scientific method.”

A wine cooler from Metro Builders Supply, 3252 N. Glenstone Ave., can help wine connoisseurs keep their wines properly chilled.

Often installed in an island or to replace a couple of kitchen drawers, the appliances range in price from $1,200 to $4,000, said Judy Bilyeu, director of marketing for Metro Builders Supply.

“They add an elegant touch to kitchens, and wine is becoming more and more popular,” Bilyeu said.

“This allows people to keep a supply on hand for entertaining without having to pick up a bottle on the way home. You can decide at the last minute what you’d like to prepare, and you’ve got the wines already to match.”

Custom threads

For the person on your list who seems to have everything, Gary Floyd of G Floyd Custom Clothiers, 1835 E. Republic Road, recommends blue jeans that aren’t available on the rack.

“I just started doing custom jeans,” Floyd said.

The jeans start at about $255 and are designed for the customer’s body. “We go in and find places where we can tailor fit them,” Floyd said.

“We’re doing a pair now with crystal studs for a woman for about $1,400. They’re crystal studs coming down the outside of the legs, then we did a dye over them to make them look like she’s wearing western chaps but it’s actually the different color of the denim. It’s the most cool thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”
