Gift of Time Award nominations open for 2010

Posted online
The city of Springfield is accepting nominations for the 2010 Gift of Time Awards, which honor volunteers in the community.

The awards have been given to 190 volunteers since 1991, and 10 more will be honored at the Gift of Time Luncheon on June 17 at the Ramada Oasis Convention Center.

Portraits of the recipients will be displayed throughout the year on the Rosanna Bradshaw Memorial Wall of Fame, in the Busch Municipal Building, according to a city news release. Bradshaw helped create the Gift of Time program.

The main portion of the nomination is an essay of 500 words or less describing why the nominee should be honored, and a list of any organizations with which the nominee is involved.

The nomination deadline is 5 p.m. on May 14, and nominations can be submitted at the city Web site.

Past honorees include former Springfield City Council members Mary Collette and Gary Deaver, and local businesspeople Mick Denniston, David Harrison, Charlie O'Reilly, Patti Penny and Doug Pitt.
