Gettin’ Basted targets February opening in Nixa

A second brick-and-mortar restaurant for Gettin’ Basted LLC is on the verge of opening in Nixa.

Co-owner Tammy Roberts said the eatery at 606 W. Mt. Vernon St. should launch by mid-February.

Roberts said it’s the second Gettin’ Basted restaurant she owns with Brad Leighninger, Derrick Melugin and Jason Roberts. The 5,000-square-foot restaurant has a seating capacity of around 125, which she said is slightly smaller than its Branson shop, which opened in September 2016.

The owners purchased the Nixa building, formerly a Buckingham Smokehouse Bar-B-Q, for an undisclosed price in November. Roberts declined to name the seller, but said it was someone who acquired the property months before at an auction after the Buckingham restaurant shuttered.

“We weren’t specifically targeting Nixa,” she said, adding there was a desire by the owners to grow the brand beyond Branson.

Gettin’ Basted’s menu includes wings, smoked prime brisket, pulled pork, burgers, sandwiches and salads. Roberts said wagyu burgers and house-smoked pastrami would be among new additions to its menu.

Roberts said the restaurant is now hiring, adding they seek to staff between 60-75 employees.

The barbecue eatery originally started as a food truck in Springfield in 2016 after several years of Jason Roberts, Melugin and Leighninger teaming up for competition barbecue. The trio has won dozens of championships, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
