The office, 1157 W. Highway 76 in the Branson Heights Shopping Center, doubled in size to 3,600 square feet. The company acquired additional space next door, vacated by a bridal store. Branson Heights Inc. owns the building.
Duane and Kay Gerken started the real estate company in 1975 as an independent agency. Gerken & Associates has operated from the Branson Heights location since 1976, doing business under the Century 21 franchise 1977–2002. Sons Jeff and Charlie Gerken became broker/officers in 2006, and the company now has 10 licensed Realtors and an office administrator.
Kay Gerken said the company acted as the general contractor, with the family doing most of the labor. Butler, Rosenbury & Partners Inc., in Springfield, was the architect. Interior design services were provided by Laura Daly of Daktari Interior Design in Springfield.
