George Curry, a champion of black press, dies at 69

George Curry, a journalist and columnist known for being a powerful voice on issues confronting black Americans, died on Saturday. He was 69.

The nonprofit Constituency for Africa confirmed his death, saying he died from an apparent heart attack.

Curry wrote columns that appeared in papers across the country and also was the founding editor of the award-winning Emerge magazine.
