Government Employees Health Association Inc. is conducting layoffs in its hometown of Lee's Summit.
GEHA said in a state filing that 453 employees would be let go within the next six months.
The company cited plans to hire outside contractor United Medical Resources as a third-party administrator. UMR is a subsidiary of UnitedHealthcare Services Inc.
Impacted employees will be able to apply for open positions at either GEHA or UMR, or receive severance packages, the Kansas City Business Journal reports.
