Southside Police and Fire Station
Located at 2620 W. Battlefield Road, this $4.5 million city of Springfield project has an estimated completion date of summer 2002. Ken Stufflebeam, AIA, is the project architect, and the contractor is to be announced.
This project combines new facilities for Fire Station No. 6 with a new Southside Police Station. The Police Station will support 50 percent of the city's patrol officers and vehicles.
A 1,000-square-foot community meeting room also is provided with a separate public entrance. The total facility is approximately 45,000 square feet, including adaptive reuse of the existing 7,000-square-foot AutoZone building on the site and 14,000 square feet of basement storage and shell space for the Police Department. Site work includes a fuel station and parking for more than 200 vehicles.
