The average cost of gasoline in Missouri rose 6.5 cents during the week of Feb. 27-March 4 to $3.56 per gallon yesterday.
The March 4 average was 31.1 cents higher than a month ago and 24.5 cents higher than a year ago. The U.S. average, which increased 5.2 cents during the week to $3.71 per gallon, has increased 27.8 cents in the last month and 24.1 cents in the last year, according to a GasBuddy.com news release.
"Gasoline prices have spiked considerably higher in virtually every area over the last two weeks, and while I don't expect the pace of the recent rise in prices to continue for the entire month, a similar jump may again occur closer to April Fools Day," said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy.com senior petroleum analyst, in the release. "The rise in price is so unbelievable that we may have to revise upward our previous gasoline forecast that had called for a national average of between $3.75 to $4.15 by mid-May, as the national average already stands at nearly $3.72 per gallon."
In the U.S. this morning, Wyoming had the lowest gas price average at $3.16 per gallon, while Missouri came in at No. 11 with an average of $3.56 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.com's list of the
lowest gas price averages by state.
