Garmin maps out expansion in Olathe

Officials with Olathe, Kan.-based Garmin International Inc. have decided to stay right at home with their company’s expansion plans.

The navigation technology provider has acquired land adjacent to its 56-acre headquarters outside of Kansas City and it appears poised to grow its 3,400-employe workforce, the Kansas City Business Journal reports, citing an Olathe city planning staff report.

A campus master plan is expected at city offices May 8, according to the staff report, but Garmin officials aren’t yet commenting about the planned expansion.

Earlier in the week, the Olathe Planning Commission approved a preliminary development plan that allows Garmin to build a 1,300-space parking garage near its existing office to replace a 350-space surface lot. According to the business journal, a separate commission approval gives the go-ahead for another 237-space surface lot northwest of the headquarters.
