Gannett deal to buy Tronc is likely imminent

Gannett’s goal to buy newspaper company Tronc could be realized today.

Sources familiar with the matter told Politico that Gannett, the country's second-largest newspaper chain and publisher of USA Today, and Tronc exchanged asset purchase agreement drafts.

Tronc, formerly known as Tribune Publishing, is the publisher of such broadsheet mainstays as The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune and The Baltimore Sun.
