Veteran librarian Annie Busch was a major force in leading the Springfield-Greene County Library District into the 21st century. Busch faced off against a constantly changing clientele by embracing technology and working fervently to keep the library system relevant. As executive director for 18 years before retiring in late 2008, Busch was a driving force behind the Ozarks Regional Information Online Network and development of the Library Center and Library Station. Busch was named the 2008 Springfieldian, a 2004 Most Influential Women honoree by Springfield Business Journal and was awarded an honorary doctorate from Missouri State University in 2007. Today, the library district has an annual circulation of nearly 4 million.
