Veteran librarian Annie Busch was a major force in leading the Springfield-Greene County Library District into the 21st century. Busch faced off against a constantly changing clientele by embracing technology and working fervently to keep the library system relevant. As executive director for 18 years before retiring in late 2008, Busch was a driving force behind the Ozarks Regional Information Online Network and development of the Library Center and Library Station. Busch was named the 2008 Springfieldian, a 2004 Most Influential Women honoree by Springfield Business Journal and was awarded an honorary doctorate from Missouri State University in 2007.
