Gary Funk is leaving Community Foundation of the Ozarks after seven years as president and CEO.
Funk announced his resignation Thursday at CFO's Affiliate Conference. He will continue as CEO until the end of the organization's fiscal year on June 30. Funk plans to remain with the organization for an additional year as a senior fellow, helping with transition issues and the recently launched Rural Schools Partnership, according to a CFO news release.
During Funk's tenure, CFO's assets tripled to $145 million, and grants increased nearly eightfold to a record $15.9 million in 2009. The foundation also moved into new downtown Springfield headquarters and opened regional offices in Carthage and West Plains, the release said.
"Organizations need change and so do people, and we are simply implementing a thoughtful succession plan that has been in place for nearly two years,” Funk said in the release.
CFO made no announcement about a successor for Funk; CFO Development Operations Officer Winter Skelton said a decision would be made in May.
Executive Vice President Brian Fogle, who joined the organization in September 2008, said he is a candidate for the position and is "definitely interested," but said the board will not make a decision on the position until its May 19 board meeting.
“I couldn't be more optimistic about the future of our foundation,” Funk said in the release. “Our staff is top-notch, our board dedicated, and I am personally elated with our leadership succession plan.”
Funk spent 19 years in education before joining the foundation in 1999.[[In-content Ad]]
