The National Multiple Sclerosis Society Mid-America Chapter Ozark Branch is registering cyclists for the 2003 MS 150 Bike Tour, which will be held Sept. 13-14. The annual event will take riders through 150 miles of Missouri and Kansas countryside, and raise money for research and programs for the 25,000 people in western Missouri and eastern Kansas who are affected by multiple sclerosis. The two-day ride will begin at Republic High School and stop in Joplin the first day for an overnight stay.
On the second day, riders will continue from Joplin to Pittsburg, Kan. Registration for the ride is $35, and each cyclist is required to raise a minimum of $200 in pledges.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic disease of the central nervous system that affects 330,000 Americans. Symptoms of the disease range from mild to severe, and they can change without pattern or warning. Symptoms include numbness, blurred vision, blindness and paralysis. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society supports research about the disease and provides programs, education and public policy for people who have the disease. Nixa Chamber Fall Classic
The Nixa Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Fall Golf Classic will be held Sept. 19 at Hidden Valley Golf Links. The fund-raising event for the nonprofit chamber will tee off with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The entry fee for the two-player scramble is $75 per player, which includes green fees and a cart, beverage cart, a barbecue lunch and a goody bag. Play is open to members and nonmembers of the Nixa Area Chamber of Commerce.

Golf for Literacy
The Ozarks Literacy Council is presenting its first four-man golf scramble to raise money to fight illiteracy. The event will begin at 8 a.m. Aug. 28 at Rivercut Golf Course. HBA Fall Golf Tourney
The Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield's Fall Golf Tournament, a two-person scramble, will be held Sept. 4 at Silo Ridge Golf & Country Club in Bolivar.
Check-in is 7 a.m. for the 8 a.m. shotgun-start tee off, and 12:30 p.m. for the 1:30 p.m. tee off. The registration fee is $75 per person, and that includes mulligans and range balls. Play is open to HBA members, guests, employees or family members 18 years or older, and prospective members.

Fallen Heroes concert
Quickdine.com and Split-Ticket are presenting the second annual Fallen Heroes 9/11 Benefit Concert, which will benefit United Way of the Ozarks for the services of Developmental Center of the Ozarks and Boys and Girls Town. The event will be held 3 p.m.-1 a.m. Sept. 13 at the Eagles Lodge at 603 W. Plainview Road. The concert will feature southwest Missouri bands, a disc jockey, door prizes, food, beverages, and live and silent auctions. The Credit Unions' Golfing For Kids four-player scramble will be held Sept. 12 at Rivercut Golf Course. Shotgun starts will be at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Entry fees are $70 per person, $280 per team. The registration deadline is Aug. 29. The entry fee includes green fees, golf cart, lunch, range balls, prizes and a gift bag. Proceeds will benefit Children's Miracle Network. Teeing up for kids
Silverleaf Resorts Inc. and Holiday Hills Resort & Golf Club are teaming up to present the fourth annual Charity Golf Tournament to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of the Ozarks. The tournament will be held Aug. 15 at Holiday Hills Golf Club. The four-person scramble will have flights at 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided by Golden Corral and Charlie's Steak Ribs & Ale. Friends of the Zoo golf
The fifth annual Wild Strokes Golf Tournament for Dickerson Park Zoo will be held Sept. 5 at the Silo Ridge Country Club in Branson. The event will begin with lunch served noon-1 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The four-person scramble is presented by the Friends of the Zoo.

Summer Jubilee
The Sertoma Summer Jubilee will be held Aug. 22 on the Remington's parking lot at 1655 W. Republic Road. Activities will start at noon, with lunch available from the Johnsonville Brats Big Taste Grill, a large cooker on an 18-wheeler. The grill, which can handle 2,500 brats an hour, will serve brats noon-7 p.m. Other food, including barbecue ribs, beans and potato salad, will be available for purchase. Bands will start playing at 5 p.m. Hog Molly will lead, with Big Smith taking the stage at about 7 p.m.
The sponsoring organization is the Heart of the Ozarks Sertoma Club, with proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Springfield. Admission is $5.
