Fuel Tracker

National gasoline prices jumped more than 12 cents per gallon for the week ended Sept. 30. It’s just one more story in a season of fuel price extremes. Crude oil inputs into refineries averaged 11.7 million barrels per day for the week, the lowest average since the week ended March 13, 1987. That reduced output is drawing on available gasoline stockpiles, resulting in increased prices. Below is the national average gasoline price per gallon, the West Texas Intermediate crude oil spot price per barrel and a snapshot of prices in Springfield. The U.S. average for gasoline as of Oct. 3 was $2.93 per gallon, up 13 cents from Sept. 26. The price of crude oil per gallon as of Sept. 30 was $66.21, up $1.54 from Sept. 23.
