Though not directly related to unleaded gasoline, the market for distillate petroleum products, including heating oil and diesel fuel, has an impact on gasoline prices because those distillates also require crude oil for their production. As a result, this winter’s weather – and its impact on demand for heating oil – will affect gasoline prices. Despite that uncertainty, crude oil prices – and, subsequently, gas prices – fell as a result of news that crude inventories are up for the first time in seven weeks. Below is the national average gasoline price per gallon, the West Texas Intermediate crude oil spot price per barrel and a snapshot of prices in Springfield.
