Year-to-year averages for petroleum demand seem to be declining, according to the Energy Information Administration. September 2005 gasoline and total product demand was down 1.5 percent from the same period in 2004. Analysts are unsure whether the downturn is a statistical anomaly or the beginning of a trend toward decreased demand. The U.S. average price for gasoline per gallon was $2.20 as of Nov. 21, down 10 cents from Nov. 14. The price of crude oil per barrel was $56.30 as of Nov. 18, down $1.15 from Nov. 11.
