The U.S. Federal Trade Commission filed suit against data broker Kochava Inc. for allegedly selling sensitive location data.
The FTC said geolocation data sold could show visits to places such as reproductive health clinics, domestic violence or homeless shelters, addiction recovery centers and places of worship.
Idaho-based Kochava collects and resells precise geolocation data from consumers’ smartphones.
