FTC proposes ban on noncompete clauses

The Federal Trade Commission is proposing a new rule to ban noncompete clauses.

FTC officials say such clauses in worker contracts violate its fair trade laws.

Agency officials said noncompete clauses are a “widespread and often exploitative practice that suppresses wages, hampers innovation and blocks entrepreneurs from starting new businesses.”
