The Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday filed to block Facebook parent company Meta's proposed acquisition of virtual reality company Within.
FTC officials say Meta already has the resources to build its own VR apps similar to those made by Within. Buying the company would "[dampen] future innovation and competitive rivalry," according to the FTC.
The agency accused Meta of attempting to expand its "virtual reality empire."
