Project description: Money to expand this existing elementary school came from a $96.5 million bond issuance that Springfield voters approved in April 2006. The funding is also helping Springfield Public Schools renovate 24 of its 53 buildings, according to district spokeswoman Beth Kirkpatrick. All projects should be finished by 2009, she said. Weller is getting more classrooms and a multipurpose room, which will help ease crowding after the school absorbed more than 100 students from Shady Dell Elementary last year. Weller, led by principal Marilyn Monroe, has about 320 students. With the addition, Weller should be able to accommodate 600 students.
