Project description: The Kitchen Inc. is constructing a project its officials refer to as Emergency Shelter 2.0. The project will add 12 new units alongside The Kitchen’s existing shelter, increasing capacity to 25 units for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Meleah Spencer, CEO of The Kitchen, said the expansion will feature the same modular design as the original structure while introducing a half-court basketball court to enhance recreational opportunities. Other amenities include a laundry facility, computer room, playground, animal kennels and on-site case management services. The goal, Spencer said, is to create a comprehensive, supportive environment for people in need.
