Project description: The city’s second Target store, taking shape at the corner of Sunshine Street and West Bypass, is based on the company’s Northstar Prototype, which is about 20,000 square feet larger than the chain’s average store. The larger-format store is designed to include an expanded grocery area as well as a Starbucks, CVS Pharmacy and an expanded fulfillment area with curbside order pickup, according to an S.M. Wilson & Co. spokesperson. The publication Supermarket News reported on the Northstar Prototype when it was introduced in 2022, noting the store’s backroom fulfillment space is five times larger than a regular Target store to better fulfill digital orders. Target is reportedly pursuing a “stores as hubs” strategy, with local stores fulfilling more than 95% of its digital and same-day orders, which account for more than 10% of the company’s sales.
