Project description: In 2018, the city of Springfield purchased and then combined three lots on West College Street to house a new fire station. City architect Jennifer Swan said Fire Station No. 13 accommodates the needs of fire personnel in a low-maintenance facility. Upon completion, Station No. 13 will be a masonry-veneered, one-story, two-bay station constructed with a combination of masonry and wood framing, she said. This station will house three shifts of four crew members each. This is a new station for the city, which currently has 12 fire stations in operation. Funding for the station comes from the city’s level property tax, Swan said.
