Project description: The Southwest Center for Independent Living is expanding across Cambridge Street with a 22,000-square-foot building that roughly doubles its operating space. CEO Gary Maddox said the design allows SCIL to grow with a community room for youth activities, a universally accessible kitchen and expanded assistive technology space to serve people with disabilities. The expansion also includes a 900-square-foot, universally designed and outfitted apartment for client training and rehabilitation. Maddox said SCIL plans to add at least 10 agency personnel over the next two years. A capital campaign was launched about a month ago.
