Project description: A new Pipkin Middle School is taking shape on a 9-acre site just over a block north of its existing site. The new footprint is about triple the size of the existing one, and school officials say it will offer outdoor space for physical education classes and extracurriculars like football and track, plus parking and a car queue. Roughly 78% of Springfield voters approved Proposition S, Phase 2 – a $220 million general obligation bond targeting facility improvements – in April 2023. The new building is designed for 550 students, according to SPS officials, with space to expand.
