Description: A gated community on the city’s north side is in the works with Pacific Station, under development just east of National Avenue and north of Division Street. The development spans two acres and will include 11 two-story duplexes. Each of the 22 units is designed to include three bedrooms and two baths with 9-foot ceilings, according to a Valiant Group spokesperson. A blight study for the site, prepared by the developer, found an inadequate street layout, deterioration of site improvements, obsolete platting, unsanitary or unsafe conditions and fire danger. Valiant Group owner Josh Manning told Springfield Business Journal the development is meant to address the oft-cited problem of “missing middle” housing – that is, housing that is accessible to working-class buyers and breaks the mold of traditional single-family housing. “The barriers of entry to homeownership are very challenging right now,” he said. “We want to provide affordable, safe homes to good people.”
