Project Description: Nixa Public Schools spokesman Zac Rantz said the addition features a commons area that doubles as a Federal Emergency Management Agency tornado shelter. Funded by $9.5 million in bonds issued last year, crews also are creating a lunch room, redesigning a secure entrance, and adding and remodeling classrooms for band, music and science, Rantz said. Designed to help reduce overcrowding in the junior high and the use of trailers for classrooms, the project concludes construction the district began with an April 2012 bond issue.
