Project description: Dustin Hemsworth, project manager for general contractor Federal Construction Inc., said the $1.2 million construction budget for the new Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home & Museum was generated through public donations. Museum officials have an additional $268,000 set aside for furniture and features inside the property, in large part from a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant. The museum closes for the winter, so a grand opening ceremony is scheduled April 22. With 30,000 visitors a year, Hemsworth said museum officials felt they had outgrown their older, smaller museum and wanted to take the farm back to original conditions. The project is on a plat immediately adjacent to museum home Rocky Ridge Farm.
