Project description: This project sits on 152 acres north of Lake Springfield, according to Miles Park, superintendent of general services for the Park Board. The land was acquired by the Park Board from City Utilities of Springfield through a provision in the Vision 20/20 plan. Funding for the project comes from the 1/4-cent sales tax approved by voters in 2001. At the site, the Park Board will rent kayaks and canoes to the public and operate a fishing supplies store. The project also includes offices, a warming kitchen, public restrooms and a community gathering room.
