Size: The new portion of the structure will consist of approximately 95,000 square feet. The total square footage of the Greene County Justice Center, including the portion of the existing jail that will be remodeled, will be about 125,000 square feet.
Estimated construction cost: The estimated cost for the construction of the project is $17 million. The total project cost, including professional fees, contingencies, furniture, fixtures and equipment, will be approximately $22 million.
Description of project: The center will include about 500 beds for inmates. It will also allow the county to switch from linear incarceration to direct supervision incarceration. In the new jail, inmate cells will be arranged in a horseshoe fashion around a large day room. A correctional officer will be stationed in each day room on a 24-hour basis.
Estimated completion date: Substantial completion of the new portion of the facility is anticipated by Dec. 2000. Total completion is estimated between October 2001 and Jan. 2002.
