Project description: Ashley Burchfield is building a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified building to house his bicycle shop, Cycles Unlimited, which has been at 1254 E. Republic Road for eight years. Burchfield established Bicicleta LLC in 2005 to handle the building’s development.
He said his new shop would be at least 30 percent more energy-efficient than a standard building through green efforts including the recycling of construction waste, use of natural light and rainwater collection. Burchfield received help from Environmental Market Solutions Inc., an international environmental consulting firm with offices in Springfield, Washington, D.C., and Beijing and Shanghai, China.
