Description: A building to house indoor playing fields is being developed at the Betty & Bobby Allison Sports Town in northwest Springfield adjacent to Deer Lake Golf Course. The 94,000-square-foot preengineered metal building, located on the 105-acre site, will contain two artificial turf soccer fields, four multipurpose basketball/volleyball courts, a food court, conference rooms and a common area, according to information provided by general contractor Crossland Construction. Outdoors, the plan calls for eight natural and four artificial turf fields. Philanthropist and businessperson Bobby Allison pledged up to $3.5 million for the fields and signage with naming rights, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. The sports destination is being developed by SGF Sports LLC through a partnership with Philcrest Properties and L5 Management & Consulting, as well as the city of Springfield. The building originally was scheduled for completion in late spring, but officials say materials and staffing shortages factored into a few weeks’ delay.
