Project description: The 4,300-square-foot community safe room, located in Marshfield’s Ellis O. Jackson Park, will serve dual purposes. The building is built to Federal Emergency Management Agency requirements, with heavily reinforced precast concrete walls and roofing, said project architect Jennifer Wilson, adding that it’s designed to withstand an F5 tornado. Because the park is the site of the Webster County Fair, the safe room also can serve as a multipurpose room during the annual event. The shelter is funded by a FEMA grant up to $374,100 obtained by Webster County, with the remaining cost covered by the city of Marshfield.
