French billionaire brings electric car-share program to U.S.

French billionaire Vincent Bollore, chairman of the Bollore Group, is establishing the largest U.S. car-sharing program for electric vehicles to promote advanced batteries and services offered by the conglomerate he heads.

Bollore’s company is investing roughly $35 million to create BlueIndy service in Indianapolis, which will utilize as many as 500 of his Bluecars and 1,000 charging stations. The program is expected to be up and running in eight months and feature cars for rent for as little as $10 per hour.

The Bollore Group makes its own lithium metal polymer batteries for its electric cars and companies including Nissan Motor Co.’s Leaf electric hatchback.
