French architects win 2021 Pritzker Prize

French architects Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal won the 2021 Pritzker Prize, the most prestigious award in architecture.

The architects got the nod for their work on dilapidated public housing, known as social housing in France. Their designs focus on replenishing low-income housing complexes without displacing the tenants who live in them.

"There's a lot of violence in architecture and urbanism. We try to be precise. We try to work with kindness," Vassal said in a 2017 lecture.
