Fremont Hills will receive a $500,000 Missouri Department of Natural Resources grant to improve its water quality.
The Christian County community will apply the funds toward a $2.6 million expansion of its water treatment system, according to a news release from the governor's office. The plans, designed under the state's Clean Water Initiative, include adding a nutrient removal mechanism.
"The Clean Water Initiative is designed to help Missouri communities with funding for their water infrastructure, safe drinking water and water quality," Gov. Matt Blunt said in the release.
Blunt said the initiative - administered by DNR's Water Protection Program and limited to counties, municipalities, and water or sewer districts - also helps protect Missouri's environment and provide jobs building the state's water infrastructure.
Fremont Hills also is obtaining a DNR loan made available through the department's revolving fund program. The Clean Water Initiative grant funds come from a $50 million bond sale in November 2007.
