Last edited 1:55 p.m., June 10, 2015Franchisees for Planet Fitness are working toward a fall opening for their second Springfield gym at a former Price Cutter store.
Via Planet PF Arkansas LLC, brothers Rick and David Kueber expect to open the 24,000-square-foot health club in early October at 1730 S. Campbell Ave. The gym would employ up to 28 full- and part-time workers, said Ken Horn, spokesman for the franchisees.
The Kuebers opened their first Springfield location of Planet Fitness, which emphasizes “judgment-free zones,” in March 2014 at 2851 W. Republic Road, also the site of a former Price Cutter store. The franchisees spent approximately $2 million to convert the store to a gym, according to
Springfield Business Journal archives. Horn said the franchisees would invest about the same for their second Springfield gym.
“Springfield has supported our first club on West Republic Road so well, we are confident our South Campbell club will be a great addition,” Rick Kueber said in a news release.
Price Cutter vacated its 40,000-square-foot South Campbell store in April when it relocated the operation to 1260 St. Louis St., one of four former Dillons stores Price Cutter bought when the supermarket chain decided to leave the market late last year, according to
SBJ archives.
According to Greene County assessor and Missouri secretary of state records, the 1730 S. Campbell property is owned by a Lebanon-based group organized as Philippians c4 v13 LLC, as of March 3. The 3.2-acre property has a 2015 taxable appraised value of $1.7 million.
Horn declined to provide lease terms.
