France wants carmakers to ditch petrol, diesel

France is seeking to prohibit the country's carmakers from selling petrol or diesel vehicles by 2040.

French Environment Minister Nicolas Hulot announced the plan as part of its commitment to the Paris climate accord.

The country also plans to stop producing power from coal-power stations by 2022. The power currently represents 5 percent of the country's total.
