Founding OTC trustee dies

Longtime Ozarks Technical Community College Board of Trustees member Jackie McKinsey has died.

McKinsey, 88, died Sept. 1 at Collier Hospice Center in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, "after a long illness," according to her obituary posted to Legacy.com.

McKinsey retired from the OTC board in 2014. A founding member in 1990, she held the positions of secretary, treasurer, vice chairperson and chairperson for the board, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

"Her significant and impactful legacy continues to leave its mark at OTC and beyond," OTC officials said in a statement.

Her volunteer work expanded beyond OTC.

McKinsey was a past president of the Springfield Public Schools Board of Education, the Missouri Association for Children with Learning Disabilities and the Missouri Community College Association, according to her obituary. She earned gubernatorial appointments to the Missouri Women's Council and the Missouri Special Education Advisory Panel, and she served as chairperson of the Vision 20/20 economic development focus group.

McKenzie also co-founded Penmac Staffing Services Inc., said Sara Corman, director of marketing for the company. The staffing firm's name comes from "Pen" in Patti Penny's name and "Mac" in McKenzie's name, Corman said.

Nearly two years after the formation, Penny bought out McKenzie's stake in the business, Corman said.
