Founding OTC trustee dies

A founding member of the Ozarks Technical Community Board of Trustees died Feb. 17. Frank Farmer was 89.

Farmer held a position on the board from its 1990 inception until 2008, when he retired his post along with founding member Don Wessel, the founder of Don Wessel Honda who died Feb. 6, 2012, at age 86.

Funeral services are scheduled 11 a.m. Feb. 21 at Wesley Cemetery in Willard, according to Farmer's obituary at Legacy.com.

Farmer worked for 30 years as a reporter and editorial page designer for the Springfield News-Leader. During his career, he interviewed members of congress, governors, actors and actresses and Springfield-area movers and shakers, according to his obituary.

On Dec. 3, 1986, Gov. John Ashcroft declared the date as "Frank Farmer Day" in honor of his career. He also served on several boards, including the Greene County Farmer's Cooperative, Springfield library district and the Missouri Resource Conservation and Development Council, according to his obituary.

Farmer was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Connie Winn, and his wife, Helen, who died Jan. 18.
