Project description: This project consists of replacement of 2.8 million square feet of original Interstate 44 pavement from the 1960s, project officials say, and includes the addition of one lane in each direction, replacement of six bridges and other structural, drainage and amenity work throughout. The project is happening on a 28-month timeline while maintaining two lanes of traffic in each direction. The team of engineers includes Crawford, Murphy & Tilly Inc. as the lead over roadway, signage, storm and structural work, along with Burns & McDonnell Consultants Inc. (Kansas City), structures and stormwater pollution prevention plan; HG Consult Inc. (Kansas City), maintenance of traffic; EFK Moen LLC (St. Louis), structure rehab; and George Butler Associates Inc. (Lenexa, Kansas), noise walls.
