The Neighborhood Roundtable, facilitated through Community Partnership’s Caring Communities Initiative, will take place 7–8 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church, 845 S. Fort Ave.
Predatory lending, which can include payday and car-title loan organizations and businesses that offer abusive mortgage terms, is on the rise in Missouri – the number of payday lenders in the state has nearly doubled in the last five years to almost 1,300, according to the Missouri Division of Finance.
The discussion tonight will educate attendees on methods predatory lenders use, alternatives available for borrowers, and continued education through the Don’t Borrow Trouble Campaign, sponsored locally through UNA.
Invited panelists include Tonya Collister, director of housing for Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Springfield; Derek Fraley, assistant treasurer of UMB Financial Corp.; Bob Horton, executive director of UNA; and Nick Venute, local attorney.
The event is free and open to the public.[[In-content Ad]]
