Fort Leonard Wood to yield 1,000 troops

Posted online
The largest military base in the Show-Me State is expected to lose 1,000 of its troops by October 2015.

The downsizing is part of the Army’s plans to shrink its force level to 490,000 soldiers from 570,000, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Fort Leonard Wood is known as a training base, but the personnel affected are expected to come from Forces Command, a group that deploys soldiers overseas. Roughly 7,000 people in uniform work at the base, which is also home to 12,000 troops there for training and 9,000 civilian employees.
