Former U.S. Rep. Todd Akin, a Republican who represented Missouri in Washington, D.C., died Sunday. The 74-year-old had cancer.
Akin gained notoriety during his 2012 Senate bid after he expressed controversial views about abortion in cases of “legitimate rape."
He lost that 2012 bid to incumbent Democrat Claire McCaskill.
