Posted online
The former leader of UMB Financial Corp. (Nasdaq: UMBF) and the father of the company's current CEO has died.

R. Crosby Kemper Jr. died Jan. 2 at age 86, according to a news release from the Kansas City-based company.

Kemper retired from UMB in 2004, handing over the reins to his son, J. Mariner Kemper, the sixth Kemper to lead the company and its current chief executive.

The senior Kemper had a career in banking spanning more than five decades, serving in various roles across UMB since 1950. In 2011, he was named senior chairman of the company and was chairman emeritus after his retirement and until his death, the release said.

UMB Financial, which operates two UMB Bank branches in Springfield, recently was named among three Missouri banks on Forbes' list of the top 25 in the country.

For Springfield Business Journal's 2013 Choice Employers awards, UMB ranked No. 1 in the 25- to 100-employee category.[[In-content Ad]]
