Former Summer Fresh owner starts bookkeeping firm

The former co-owner of Summer Fresh Supermarkets Inc. is among partners launching a bookkeeping firm next month.

Brent Brown, who had co-owned the family business until it was purchased in November by Price Cutter, is planning a May 1 opening of Bookkeeping Plus, which he said would provide bookkeeping and accounting outsource services for small businesses.

"I've been in the retail grocery business my whole life. I didn't expect that I'd be out quite this soon," Brown said. "I still have a lot years left to work, so I thought helping other small business owners would be something I'd be good at, having run a successful small business myself."

Brown is partnering with former Summer Fresh Accounting Manager Courtney Bowman and Lee Fraley, co-owner of Fraley Masonry in Ozark.

Brown said Bookkeeping Plus is opening in Kickapoo Corners on South Campbell Avenue in the same office that housed the headquarters of Summer Fresh.
