A former Republican member of the Missouri House of Representatives announced his candidacy for the 2016 gubernatorial race.
Randy Asbury, who was elected to one term in 2010 to represent all or parts of Chariton, Macon, and Randolph counties, is currently executive director of the Coalition to Protect the Missouri River, an advocacy organization supporting the societal and economic benefits of the water body. He also has past experience as principal and CEO of Principled Solutions and Strategies LLC, according to a news release.
A supporter of small government, Asbury emphasized, “guidance from God and the people, not government.”
“I look forward to the next several months, as I travel the state, to meet individuals, families, business leaders and farmers to learn first-hand what is important in the heart of Missouri people. I will listen closely to their stories,” Asbury said Friday when announcing his candidacy at Moberly Area Community College.
Asbury joins Republican
gubernatorial contenders Tom Schweich, the state’s auditor, and former state Rep. Catherine Hanaway, a partner with Husch Blackwell LLP in St. Louis. On the Democratic Party side, Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster has announced preparations for a bid.[[In-content Ad]]
